Delta@28: We’ve made some strides in youth empowerment, education –Aide

Mr. Jarry Ossai, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, said that the state had since its creation, 28 years ago, witnessed steady rise and development especially, in youths empowerment, education, health, roads and infrastructure.

Ossai, a former Commissioner for Agriculture in the state, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Asaba while speaking on the achievements recorded since the creation of Delta in 1991.

NAN recalls that Delta and Edo were carved out from the defunct Bendel State on August 27, 1991 by the then Military Government of President Ibrahim Babangida.

Ossai said that though successive governments had brought growth to the state, the Okowa led-government had scaled up development through various policies and programmes and prudent management of resources .

According to him, the years anniversary celebration is going to be low key.

”We have made some strides in youth empowerment, education both technical and vocational.

”We also make impact on health facilities particularly in rural areas, quality roads in every zone, urban infrastructure development in drainage for Asaba, Warri, Sapele, Ughelli, Agbor, Patani, Oghara and in most Local Government headquarters.

“This government has made great mark in improving agriculture, transportation and private sector investments.

“The construction of new secretariat building, upgrade of the airport, creating special development agencies for some urban centres such as Uvwie/Effurun, among others,” he said.

He said that although those were the statutory responsibilities of government, Okowa led-administration had gracefully addressed the identified challenges like never before.

“The usual inter-ethnic tensions have died down and we have relative peace in the state.

“There is also prudent management of our resources even if we don’t see it physically,

“I believe this is the best regime in Delta so far with signs of better days ahead; we need to support efforts on ground to do better for the people” Ossai said.(NAN).
