Cult war claims 3 lives in Lagos community

Palpable fear has seized Ilogbo area of Lagos, as supremacy battle between two rival cult groups has claimed the lives of three people in the area. The battle, which started around November 10, 2019, has caused panic in the once peaceful community.

The Nigerian Xpress reporter gathered that trouble started when one member of the Aye Fraternity, identified as Oway, was shot dead in Candis Hotel, close to Police Bus Stop, in Ilogbo area of Ajangbadi. In a reprisal attack to avenge the death of their member, the Aye mobilised and shot dead two members of the Eyee Fraternity at Tope area of Ilogbo on December 9, 2019.

One of the residents, Mr. Kevin Ekwueme, told the reporter that all residents fled from the community when the boys struck for fear of being harmed. He said it took the quick intervention of the police from the SARS to restore peace in the area.

“The fight started when the Aye killed one of the Eyee boys at Candis Hotel. They entered the hotel and shot him; he was rushed to a hospital but he died after four days in the hospital. He was from Benue State. When his members heard of his death, they mobilised to avenge his death. They killed two people at Tope but latter police came and arrested many of them,” Kevin said.

Another resident, who preferred not to be named for fear of being attacked, told the reporter that many of the cult boys reside within Tope area.

He said: “This Tope area is full of cult boys. They killed two people here that day. Police quickly arrived and arrested some of them. Others escaped through the canal to Jakande. They know all the routes in the community. Police were patrolling the canal with their helicopter, searching for them.”

The PPRO, for Lagos State Command, Bala Elkana, was yet to reply a text message sent to him to confirm the report from the residents.
