COVID-19: Umahi threatens to close down religious gathering for 7-days over non- compliance of protocols

…As  Ebonyi records 152 confirmed cases

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has threatened to close down Religious gathering in the state over alleged non- compliance of COVID-19 regulations and protocols.

In a similar vein, Governor Umahi has warned political office Holders to avoid any act that encourages receipt of double salary from the state government.

Governor Umahi made the assertion, on Thursday, in a live radio/television broadcast on efforts of the state government to contain the menace of Coronavirus pandemic.

He expressed dismay that Churches in the state had breached the agreement reached with the government before the reopening of religious worship in the state.

“CAN has breached the agreement as far as compliance of Covid-19 rules and protocols is concerned. God is our witness.

“I would not be happy to go to Church next Sunday and see people not wearing face-mask, we signed an agreement with the Christian Association of Nigeria.

“The state has recorded 152 confirmed cases of Covid-19,”we are working to renovate our 13 General hospitals by making them COVID-19 compliance , over 100 tests are conducted on daily basis,” he said.

The governor disclosed that the state government has constituted a Special Task Force to arrest persons that failed to wear face masks.

In a similar vein the Governor Umahi has sworn-in  a former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Lazarus Ogbe as a Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs.

The swearing ceremony took place, on Thursday, at the Executive Council Chambers of the Old Government House, in Abakaliki,  the state capital.

Hon. Ogbeh represented Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019.

He also contested the last general election in 2019 for the same position under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but the Election was upturned by both the Tribunal and the Enugu Division of the Court of Appeal following a petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Comrade Chinedu Ogah.
