COVID-19: UK blacklists Nigeria over fear of new Omicron variant

The United Kingdom has included Nigeria in its red list, as the European nation tightens travel restrictions in an effort to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The UK Government’s travel advice on Nigeria stated, “From 04:00 on Monday, 6 December, Nigeria will be added to the red list for entering England.”

Visitors from red-listed countries must undergo a COVID-19 test three days prior to travel, buy a quarantine lodging package that includes two COVID-19 tests, and fill out a passenger locator form.

Even fully vaccinated people are subject to the rules.

“We have learned of a considerable number of developing cases linked to travel with Nigeria in recent days,” UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid said on Saturday, according to the BBC.

On Wednesday, Nigeria reported the first instances of the Omicron virus.
