COVID-19: Sanwo-Olu’s performance confirms need for special status for Lagos – Lanre Razak

…Commends FG, donors, people for compliance with preventive rules

A renowned politician and elder statesman in Lagos State, Chief Lanre Razak, has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his relentless efforts at ridding the state and the country at large of the deadly Coronavirus saying, “his performance has reaffirmed the need for a Special Status for the state.”

Razak, who gave the commendation made the in his Lagos office at a media chat, also praised the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari over its steps being taken to save the country from the killer disease, stating that, “Nigerians are appreciative of its good gestures towards humanity.”

In addition, the Epe-born High Chief also gave kudos to the Lagos residents for their patience, endurance and cooperation with Governor Sanwo-Olu through their compliance with the preventive measures put in place to see to the end of the monster, hoping that, “with that, the hard time would soon be over.”

According to him, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s success story has turned Lagos State to a Mecca sort of and referral destination for other states, including the seat of power in Abuja that aspire for medical solution, praising the governor and his team for turning the state into a saving grace for the country and beyond.

The concerned elder statesman, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state however urged the people not to relent in their efforts at observing all the preventive rules like staying at home, social distancing, covering of nose/mouth, regular washing of hands and general hygienic attitudes till the country would be seeing through this trying time.

 “The measures rolled out by the authorities are not punitive, rather, they are aimed at guaranteeing the welfare of the citizenry as part of their fundamental duties as enshrined in the constitution. And strict compliance with the rules is the only surest way to shame the disease out of our country completely,” Razak appealed.

He also praised those individuals, corporate organisations, religious and social groups, financial institutions and others whose name are too numerous to mention for their generosity, magnanimity and philanthropic gestures towards the fight against the fearful disease.

The door of more donations, Razak continued, is not close yet as this time is the period to play Oliver Twist, reminding that, “in political parlance, we say, it is not over until it is properly over,” praying God to see Nigeria, albeit, the whole world through this trying period.

Against this backdrop, Razak, who is a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), expressed optimism that, with the trending performance of Governor Sanwo-Olu, “Lagos State would soon attain a Special Status it deserves under the APC Federal administration.”

He observed that, with some of the developments in the state coupled with the friendly National Assembly, the state is moving closer to attaining the status, adding that, the situation is very clear and even clearer now.
