The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, has debunked the allegation that a palliative in the sum of N23 million was given to the agency by the federal government.
Reacting to the allegation, the NIS boss denied knowledge of any Palliative as contained in a publication by section of the media alleging that N23m was given to the NIS as payment to Officers and Men of the Service.
The denial was contained in a statement signed on behalf of Babandede by the National Public Relations Officer of the NIS, DCI Sunday James.
Clarifying the issue, James said:before ”For the purpose of clarification, there was no palliative given the Service from the Government or private bodies for distribution to its personnel.
“The payment made to the officers was routine payments processed and paid officers in line with extant rules contrary to the publication.
“The Comptroller General was in isolation and undergoing treatment during the process. There has never been an occasion for payment of money to so called cronies as alleged.”
James argued therefore that “the publication was false, mischievous, and a figment of the imagination of the writer, clearly intended to cause disaffection within the rank and file of the Service.
“The NIS enjoins Officers and Men to distance themselves from such publication and continue to work as uniform officers who are guided by standard operating procedures and code of professional ethics worthy of uniform service,” James stated.
