COVID-19: Commonwealth medical team hails UBTH’s effort at tackling pandemic

President, Commonwealth Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, has expressed satisfaction at the level of commitment, competent being  display by Management of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH)  handling cases of Coronavirus despite lean available resources in the hospital

Dr. Enabulele, who is also a former President of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), gave the commendation when he led members of his team on a courtesy call on the management of the hospital.

He said the tour on the available hospital facilities across the over 54 countries was part of the Association support to  assess what the governments and institutions are doing to curtain the spread of COVID-19.

“All across the commonwealth, we have commissioned teams to of course go round and do some level of assessment and support for the government because again the Commonwealth Medical Association superintends over 54 National Medical Association in at least 54 countries.

“I have gone round with the Chief Medical Director and his team, and I have very good impressions of how far they have gone in terms of helping to contain COVID-19.

“In spite of the little resources available to the hospital, I have seen commitment, I have seen result, I have seen some level of patriotism in ensuring that not only the preventive measure  put in place but also in terms of case management, and I have seen some level of excellence displayed in this hospital; and that I say is even more commendable because of the resources that are not there.”

He equally commended the both the federal and state government efforts at stemming the spread of the pandemic and called for adequate equipment for health workers who are currently expose  to life threatening risk.
