COVID-19: Buhari approves release of 70,000 tonnes of grains to Nigerians

 NCDC says 70% of contact tracing ongoing 

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the release of 70,000 tones of grains to be released immediately to the most vulnerable in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory.

The chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, stated this on day three of the press briefing on the pandemic.

He said the first tranche of 6,000 will be released to Lagos, Ogun and FCT while others will go to other frontline states. The SGF said situation reports received from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Inter-State traffic across the country as at Tuesday, 31st March, indicated that there was a reasonable level of compliance with the Presidential directive which has led to great reduction of traffic on major highways. 

He said: “We have however received reports of challenges arising from the enforcement of the Presidential directives by security agents generally and in States where Governors have also imposed their own measures.” Mustapha added  that COVID-19 guidelines and protocols for the Lockdown will be widely published to ensure everyone is on the same page.  Meanwhile, the the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), says 70 percent of the over 5,000 contacts are being traced.
