COVID-19: Abuja mobile court jails 3 Imams, 2 Pastors for flouting lockdown

Three Imams and two Pastors have bagged one-month imprisonment each or an option of N5000 fine for flouting the lockdown order in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

The FCT COVID-19 Task Force arraigned them before the Eagle Square Mobile Court,  presided over by Magistrate Idayat Akonni, who on Sunday, convicted them for holding services in their worship centres in contravention of  the restriction order in Abuja.

The convicted persons are Imam Abdullahi Mohammed, in Gwarimpa Estate, Imam Suleiman Idris, Mobi close, Area 11, Garki and Deputy Imam Useni Umar, in Mobi close, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

Others are Pastor Phillips Olumbori of the Celestial Church of Christ, Lugbe, Reverend Moses Chinedu of Mercy City Gospel Centre, Aco Estate, Lugbe. 

Speaking with newsmen later, Ikharo Attah,  Chairman, FCT COVID 19 Enforcement Task Force, said: “Those sentenced should be worried because they are now ex-convicts, having been found guilty and sentenced by a competent court of law.”
