National Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Hon. Adekunle Rufai Omo-Aje, has called on the Federal Government to withdraw the military personnel from restriction enforcement duties saying, they are not trained for such a responsibility.

Omo-Aje, in a telephone chat with The Nigerian Xpress from Abuja on Sunday, reasoned that, such a civil duty is the sole responsibility of the Police reminding that, the military personnel that were not trained ab initio for such cannot adapt overnight to fit into the present arrangement of enforcing law involving civilians.

The recently elected party chairman lamented that the involvement of the solders in the restriction enforcement has started leading to casualties, regretted that, “coronavirus claimed just three lives while the solders have killed about half a dozen,” wondering where lies the benefit of their involvement in the assignment!

The Ede, Osun State born politician is of the view that other paramilitary outfits like the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps (NCDC) can team up with the Police for the assignment, expressing confidence that such a combination would be able to do the job.

He, however, chided some recalcitrant people who he wondered could not obey simple instructions meant for their own sake, warning that, the gains of the restrictions if observed would outweigh the pains at the end of the day.

However, Omo-Aje has urged the people of Nigeria to be calm and prayerful because, according to him, the monster called coronavirus would disappear faster than it came, reminding that, “there is no ailment that the almighty God had not got an answer for beforehand.”

He enthused that, with a little more efforts by both Nigerian scientists and local herbs experts, solution to the plague would be discovered sooner than expected, and praising the governments at all levels, donors, medical teams and others for their relentless efforts at seeing the end to the deadly disease.

Omo-Aje therefore enjoined the government to, as a matter of urgency, make palliatives available to the people who are facing hardship occasioned by the restriction so as to guarantee compliance, saying only the government can make the palliatives go round without consideration for political leaning, social status and religious affiliations.

Concluding, the AA boss reinforce his pledge to the people of Nigeria to cooperate with the authorities by complying with all the restriction orders they spelt out towards curbing the spread of COVID-19, reminding that, prevention is better, saver and cheaper than cure.
