Court urges couple to explore peaceful resolution of differences

A Sharia Court ll sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State on Wednesday urged a striker with Jazeerat Al-Feel Sporting Club in Sudan, Mallam Ahmad Shuaibu and wife, Rahmatu Shehu , to explore a peaceful means of resolving their differences.

The Judge Musa Sa’ad-Goma had ordered the couple to present their parents or guardians in court after Shehu filed a suit against her husband over lack of care.

The couple’s guardians Abdullahi Shehu and Yusuf Ahmad who were present in the Court said they do not support the idea of divorce as a solution to their ward’s marriage problem.

They prayed court to give the defendant some terms and conditions that would make the marriage work again.

In his response, the judge ruled that the defendant, Shuaibu must right an undertaken stating that he would fulfill all the marital duties vested on him by law as a husband to his wife.

” It is the responsibility of a husband to provide food, shelter,clothing, education, care and medical attention for his wife and children”,he noted.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Shehu had on March 21 sued her husband for divorce.

She had told the court that her husband, a professional footballer, had abandoned her and their two children for three months with no food, medical attention and shelter.

The defendant denied the charges against him.

He told the court that he rented an apartment for the plaintiff and their children, but she refused to stay there.

He noted that he loved his wife and would not want the court to dissolve their marriage.(NAN)
