Mrs. Rosemary Archibong, the Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, has urged Journalists in the country to be their brothers’ keeper at all times and support one another while practicing the profession.
The commissioner gave the advice on Friday during the lying in-state of former Chairman of NUJ, Cross River Council, Mr. Ndoma Akpet, in Calabar.
Archibong, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aye Henshaw, said it was fast becoming a culture for people to prepare for burials than to assist one struggling to survive.
“We should show love to one another in living rather than in death. It is gradually becoming a culture for people to seek help to give a dead member a befitting burial.
“But when the person was sick and needed assistance everybody would keep quiet and allow the person to die.

“We should change our attitude by being our brothers’ keeper. We should love and care for one another while we live,’’ she said.
Also speaking the State Chairman of NUJ, Mr. Victor Udu, appealed to his colleagues in the state to eschew bitterness and rancour among themselves and strive to live in peace with one another at all times.
He said that without peace, the union would not move forward, describing the deceased as a dedicated member of the union.
Udu stated that the council would surely miss its former chairman greatly.
The Director of News and Current Affairs, Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC), Mr. Eniang Ndem, described the late Akpet as a brilliant and dedicated staff of CRBC.
Until his death, Akpet was a director in the News and Current Affairs department of CRBC, Calabar. (NAN)
