Christians Honour CAN President

Christians in their thousands recently gathered at the weekend in Christ Missionaries Crusaders Church Ekpan,Delta state to honour Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle President of CAN for a successful first tenure and for his reelection for a rewarding second tenure.
The guest Speaker, Archbishop Solomon Gbakara, while acknowledging the exemplary leadership qualities of the CAN president enjoined those in position of wealth to use their resources to benefit people in the society,so that their good works and their righteousness can earn them a place in the kingdom of God.
The Chief host and organiser of the programme, Archbishop Goddowell Oyibo Avwomakpa, Chairman of CAN, South South zone while speaking to journalists noted that during the campaign period he vowed that if Ayokunle was returned as CAN president, he will give thanks to God.
The Thanksgiving was used to pray for the entire Urhoboland to remove the curse that was placed there for their refusal  to accept Christ in the 18th century, Nigeria’s fifth largest ethnic group by the missionaries

Speaking further, Avwomakpa who is also  Chairman of Niger Delta Bishops Forum called on Moslem cleric not to attack Governor Nysom Wike. According to Avwomakpa, the Rivers state governor is not part of what is been spread concerning the destroyed mosque in Rivers state. He therefore urged both Moslems and Christians in Rivers state and across the country to live in peace and unity. He equally pleaded with leaders of the Moslem in Rivers to meet with the Governor of Rivers state to resolve the issue.
Archbishop Avwomakpa further noted that Governor Wike is a lover of the people and like every other Governors in Nigeria has the Executive power to build their respective states as well as the chief security officer of their States.
He referred to a case where a branch of the church was affected by the East West road construction in Rivers state  and another also affected by road construction in the US but rather than confront the government, another land was gotten elsewhere for the work of God to move on.The CAN chairman, South South zone therefore urged people not to adjust leadership but to adjust to leadership. Even then he urged leaders to know that democracy is all power of the people for the people and by the people.
Avwomakpa noted further that Nigeria’s problems are already enormous therefore people should not add to it.
The thanksgiving service had in attendance Rev Dr Ayokunle, CAN President, Bishop Kingsley Enakirerhi, PFN chairman, Delta state, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, former minister of state, Education amongst others.
Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle  in his remark, thanked Archbishop Avwomakpa for his unwavering support and unwavering show of love against all odds and at the risk of his life. The CAN president equally thanked Pastor Adeboye and Bishop David Oyedepo and others for their support. He promised to do more to build the body of Christ in Nigeria and across the globe.
