Caleb University says ready to kick-start PhD programme

The Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, says facilities and manpower are in place to commence the newly accredited Doctorate degree programme in Architecture for the 2018/2019 academic session.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Universities Commission (NUC), had in August 2018, approved that the university run PhD in Architecture and eight other programmes starting from 2018/2019 academic session.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, made the disclosure in an interview with NAN on the sidelines of the university’s Founders Day and 12th matriculation.

“We are one of the few universities in Nigeria that have a very special structure for architecture programme.

“We are ready for the programme with the required manpower and facilities in place and hope to get better too,” he said.

Owens-Ibie said the university had admitted 16 students to kick-start the programme and that lectures would commence immediately.

“This tells the public about the level of subscription and confidence in the university which is remarkable,” he added.

According to him, the university has been able to record tremendous increase in students’ enrollment and patronage as a result of its focus on character and academic excellence.

“The God factor, ongoing development and our focus on character and academic excellence being spread by people has resulted in the multiplier effect of students’ enrollment,” he said.

Owens-Ibie promised that the university would continue to improve on its facilities in terms of equipment and manpower for its increasing population.

NAN also reports that the university matriculated 850 undergraduates, 211 new postgraduate students and 195 students for Masters Programme for the 2018/2019 academic session compared to the 787 students it admitted for the 2017/2018 academic session.
