Buhari okays re-organisation of Nigeria Police

President Muhammadu Buhari may have approved the to re-organise the Nigeria Police Force .

This was made known through a memo of May 27 from the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, addressed to all police units nationwide, he has conveyed a decision of

IGP Adamu said President Buhari made the approvals in his capacity as the chairman of the Nigeria Police Council (NPC).

The areas the reorganisation affected from the memo available to us include: the Intelligence Arm; Criminal Investigation department; zonal police headquarters structure; new structure for the Nigeria premier police college.

Part of the measures of the zonal police headquarters reorganisation included a new zonal police headquarters in Dunukofia, near Awka, Anambra State.

The new zonal command covers Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra states.

In addition to the new zone in Anambra State, there are some others that include – Ondo/Ekiti Commands with the headquarters in Akure; Bayelsa/Rivers Commands with the headquarters in Yenagoa; Yobe/Borno Commands with the headquarters in Maiduguri; and Katsina/Kaduna Commands in domiciled in Katsina.

By the new arrangement, the IGP said after the Federal Investigations Bureau (FIB) has been moved from the (Force Crime Investigations Department FCID) and a deputy inspector general (DIG) would be assigned as the head of the new department.

“This is expected to fully integrate intelligence-led policing strategy to the community policing initiative in addressing the threats that the dynamics of crime poses to the country,” said IGP.

Also, “In order to enhance the capacity of the four premiere Police Colleges in Kaduna, Ikeja,  Maiduguri and Oj- River towards meeting the training and capacity development projection of the Police in relation to junior cadre officers, Mr. President approved that the status of the Commandants of the Colleges be upgraded to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG),”he explained.
