Buhari arrives Makkah for Lesser Hajj, prays for Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, for the performance of lesser Hajj also known as Umrah.

A statement made available by Presidential spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, said the President arrived at the Holy City, on Wednesday evening, to observe the Islamic pilgrimage.

The statement maintained that President Buhari would return to the country after performing the lesser Hajj in Makkah.

Sharing the pictures via his Facebook page, Shehu wrote, “President Muhammadu Buhari and some members of the Nigerian Delegation to the Future Investment Initiative Summit depart for Makkah for Umrah (lesser hajj).”

The Umrah can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the Ḥajj which has specific dates according to the Islamic lunar calendar.

Earlier, Presidnt Buhari reportedly took time off to offer prayers on behalf of the country during a brief stopover, in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

Malam Shehu, President Buhari, along with his entourage, prayed for the return of peace in Nigeria.

“He also prayed that the insecurity raving the country and many other parts of the world will be overcome soonest and become a thing of the past.”

President Buhari spent quality time at the Mosque of the Holy Prophet Muhammed, engaging in prayers and recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

In another statement, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina disclosed that President Buhari, on Wednesday, met with the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, at an investment summit, in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Adesian’s statement was titled, ‘President Buhari, Nigerian delegation participates in 5th future investment initiative summit, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’.

Mr. Adesina, in the statement, further stated that his principal also met with the founder of BUA group, Abdul Rabiu and Group Chief Executive of Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu.

The President is expected back in Nigeria on Friday according to earlier statements by his media team.
