Blood flowed like a river when unknown gunmen invaded Omuma,  Governor Hope Uzodimma’s community, killing the Divisional Police Officer of the Omuma police divisional headquarters in Oru East council of the state.

However, police killed six of the assailants during the operation and arrested eleven others.

The state police spokesman, Michael Abattam, informed that the armed bandits drove in a convoy of three vehicles but were repelled in Omuma Town in Oru East council area of Imo state by gallant police operatives.

He added, however, that the DPO, CSP Fatmann Dooiyor Fatemann died in the operation.

“On 26/7/2021 at about 1620 hours, armed bandits in a convoy of three vehicles were repelled in Omuma Town in Oru East LGA of Imo State,” Abattam said.

The Area Commander of Omuma Area Command, ACP Benjamin Abang, disclosed that he had alerted the tactical teams of the command who swung into action based on information received that bandits were sighted coming into Omuma Town in a convoy. The team ambushed and launched a surprise attack on the convoy of the bandits, resulting in the neutralisation of six of them while eleven others were arrested.

“Unfortunately,” he reported, “the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Fatmann Dooiyor paid the supreme price.”
He added that the command’s tactical teams and Special forces led by ACP Evans Shem are combing the bush for possible arrest of the bandits that fled into the bush.

The police spokesman also disclosed that the tactical teams later recovered the three vehicles used by the bandits to the station, including, two Toyota Highlander SUV vehicles with registration numbers Abia MBL 517 AT and LAGOS, JJJ 984 EL, respectively and a milk colour unregistered Lexus SUV.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, has warned the bandit, who is in the habit of filtrating Imo from neighbouring states to stay away or be destroyed.
