Bishop Uzoukwu advises Sen. Abbo to apologise to Nigerians

The Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Most Rev. Martin Uzoukwu, has advised Sen. Elisha Abbo, (PDP Adamawa), who allegedly slapped  a nursing mother in Abuja to repent and tender an unreserved apology to Nigerians.

Uzoukwu gave the advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Wednesday.

He said that the action of the senator was a national embarrassment.

“How can a distinguished Senator descend so low in slapping a nursing mother that he is supposed to be protecting as an ordinary Nigerian,’’ he asked.

He noted that the action of Sen. Elisha is already gathering national momentum as several Nigerians, especially women groups are calling on the police not to allow the senator to go unpunished.

Uzoukwu commended the President of the Senate, Sen. Ahmad Lawan for setting up a seven- member Ad-hoc committee to investigate the matter and report back in two weeks at plenary.

He said that investigating the matter and prosecuting who soever was involved, would add value and credibility to the National Assembly in the eyes of Nigerians and international community.

Sen. Abbo was caught on camera that went viral assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja.

It was alleged in some media reports  that Abbo descended on the nursing mother after she pleaded with him not to assault the shop owner, whom the senator had accused of insulting him and calling him a drunk.

NAN reports that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Ibrahim, had ordered for full investigation of the matter, including the forensic analysis of the video currently in circulation as well as the actions and inactions of the policeman seen in the video footage.(NAN)
