About 36 persons were mauled down by alleged Fulani herdsmen in Benue State on Thursday, reports say.
Pictures shared on social media show bodies of scores of dead people, mostly young men and others also being wheeled in by relatives as residents fled the areas.
Eyewitnesses say the invaders came in the night and targeted a community in Katsina-Ala local government of the state.
Nigerians expressed shock and outrage at the breakdown of law and order in the state which has witnessed what many have called genocide by Fulani herders.
Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw said described the killings as too much and decried the general insecurity in the country.
“Much as I am trying to focus on other things.. The images of bodies lain on the floor in huge numbers has dampened my spirit somewhat.. Why does life mean nothing in Nigeria? To our rulers?? Too much blood shed….too much, God,” she said.
Under the hashtag, #BenueUnderAttack, Nigerians expressed disgust over the wanton destruction of lives and property in the state which has been in the throes of Fulani herders’ attack.
