Bayelsa Labour Party Ag. chair sacked

…Accused of mismanagement of funds, anti-arty activities

The Labour Party (LP), in Bayelsa State, has removed its acting chairman, Comrade Eneyi Zidougha.

The stakeholders which effected the removal of the Acting chairman has also appointed Comrade Ebi Sikpi as the new Acting chairman of the Party in the state.

These decisions were reached during a well-attended Labour Party  Congress which took place at the Party’s Secretariat, on Thursday, in Yenagoa, following allegation of mismanagement of N30 million Comrade Zidougha  received from the national headquarters of the Party and which he could not account for it.

He was also accused of anti-party activities including alleged diversion of elective positions for members of the Party to other political parties in the state.

Leader of a group, the Concerned Labour Party stakeholders, Comrade Abraham Gillet, who addressed the Congress read  a portion of the Constitution of the Party to Congress on procedures to follow on  an erring chairman.

In an interview, Comrd Gillet said that, “Mismanagement of the Party’s money, and anti-party  activities informed Congress decision  to move a vote of  no confidence on Eneyi Zidougha  and his  subsequent removal”.

Comrd. Steven Pinawei, Secretary of the Labour Party in Sagbama council, who spoke in the same manner, alleged  that the embattled acting chairman had been selling the mandate of Labour Party candidates to other parties in the state.

According him, “The acting chairman has been denying party members their mandate.

“He should step aside as he does not want the progress of Labour Party in the state,” Penawei added.

A Women leader of the Party, Comrd Linda Lazarus, noted that even though the acting chairman was informed of the Congress’ meeting, he, however, locked members out with security operatives.

“We no longer need him as chairman of Labour party Bayelsa State because of  numerous anti party  activities against the party”.

“See how he locked party members out of the secretariat,” added Lazarus.

It would be recalled that the acting chairman had earlier locked members out with gun-welding security operatives before they were allowed into the secretariat for the Congress meeting which decided his removal.

The new acting chairman, Ebi Sikpi, until his appointment, was  the Vice Chairman Central of the Labour Party in the state.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Sikpi, who thanked Congress for the unanimous decision for him to take over the leadership of the Labour Party in the state, promised to take everyone along and make the Party great in Bayelsa State.

“The Congress is legal. I, therefore, accept my new position as acting Chairman  of Labour Party Bayelsa State.

“Thank you for your honour and I will take everyone along to ensure the Victory  of Labour party in Bayelsa state”‘

High Chief Davidson  Emina from Bayelsa East was also appointed as the new acting Vice Chairman by the Congress.
