Bayelsa by-election: Voters foil hijack of election material

There was a desperate attempt earlier Saturday by some political thugs and partisan hirelings to hijack election materials at Ekeremor as voting got underway in the rescheduled Bayelsa West Senatorial by-election.

However, the attempt was foiled by voters and several PDP supporters on ground.
The Nigerian Xpress gathered that the botched attempt has now raised apprehensions as to what is likely going to happen in the Sagbama collation centre of the Senatorial District.
Although the election is practically a one-horse race for the PDP, there are fears that the opposition APC might use the infamous Federal Might to turn the tide of events.
There has been an across-party endorsement of the PDP candidate and immediate past governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, even from the wards of the other prominent aspirants.
Eventhough the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disqualified, and officially struck out the name of, the erstwhile APC candidate and former Deputy Governor and former Speaker of the Bayelsa State Assembly, Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, it is still believed that the party still has an ace up its sleeve, with regard to the election.
