The fiends also abducted the grieving widow and their 11-year-old daughter, demanding a ransom of N200 million before they would be released.
In a viral video showing the lifeless body of the deceased, a friend of the man could be seen wailing and lamenting the brutal killing.
Another audio recording by Ogumadu’s anonymous clansman from Amaoweri in Umuosu Nsulu, Isialangwa North LGA of Abia State, was also full of lamentations and expressed the hopelessness of the Nigerian situation.
He said: “The man in the video and picture is Emeka Ogumadu. He is a well-known person. He’s been a brother and friend and he’s from our clan. We’ve been together for some time.”
Narrating how Ogumadu met his violent untimely death, he continued: “About four days ago, bandits followed and trailed him to his house at about 9 – 10pm. When they got to his house, they shot the man before his wife and the only daughter. They shot the man; shot him on the leg, chest, head and it’s like they broke his left hand.
“The man died on the spot. They murdered him on the spot and abducted the wife and 11-year-old daughter to where nobody knows about.
“All this while, all efforts to trace them proved abortive until they called yesterday, demanding a ransom, from N200 million to N50 million. It was beaten down to N10 million.
“Now they put other attachments that apart from the N10 million, they need a carton of marijuana, some hot drinks, clipper for barbing of hair and some android phones, and cigarettes.
They instructed that all these things should be put together and that they’re gonna call to tell us the location where to bring the items and subsequently release the wife and the 11-year-old daughter. Only God knows what could have been happening to them since these four days that they had been kidnapped.”
The narrator waxed spiritual, resigning to fate: “Nigeria is getting worse by the day. In fact, if anybody sleeps and wakes up, thank God. We all need help. We all need to leave this country and go to a place that is safe. God will just help us. We’re all praying to God because nobody knows what will happen next. It’s only God that will help us,” he said.
