Austrian court orders payment of $1.7m dollars for Hitler House

A court in the Republic of Austria has ordered the payment of about 1.7 million dollars to the former owner of Adolf Hitler’s birthplace.

The plaintiff’s lawyer Gerhard Lebitsch, revealed the ruling by the regional court in the North of the Country on Wednesday.

A second report had estimated the value of the house in Braunau am Inn, much higher than an initial estimate.

So far, the state had paid the former owner 310,000 euros for the two-storey building with garages and many parking spaces.

“She is relieved about the now reasonable compensation,’’ Lebitsch said of his 68-year-old client. He, however, said that he expected the case to be completed, and should go through all legal processes.

With the compulsory purchase, the state had wanted to prevent the birthplace of the late dictator from becoming a place of pilgrimage for neo-Nazis.

Hitler (1889 to 1945) spent the first months of his life in a flat in the house. (NAN)
