Still remember Ese Oruru? The 14-year-old girl that was kidnapped and taken to Kano, forcefully converted to Islam and married off without the consent of her parents in 2015?

Oruru was eventually rescued and reunited with her parents after six months but she was already pregnant and was later delivered of a baby in May 2016.

Nevertheless, the long arm of the law has eventually caught up with the perpetrator of the crime, Yunusa Dahiru, as a federal high court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has slammed 26-year-jail term on him.

The convict was first arraigned in 2016 on a five-count charge, bordering on abduction, kidnapping, having unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual exploitation of Oruru.

The trial judge, Jane Inyang, on Thursday, found Dahiru guilty on four of the five charges preferred against him.

He was found guilty on count two and given a five-year sentence. On count three, he was also found guilty and given seven years while he was also found guilty on count four and got another seven years, making a total of 21 years. However, he was not convicted on count one.

However, the sentences shall run concurrently, meaning that Dahiru shall be spending only seven years in prison.
