Former Super Eagles defender, Chikelue Iloenyosi has given a pat on the back to both the Super Eagles and the Dream Team for doing Nigeria proud in the three games decided over five days at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
The Super Eagles who on Friday defeated Seychelles 3-1 in the AFCON 2019 qualifier last night secured 1-0 victory against Egypt in an international friendly, while the Dream Team on Monday overran Libya 4-0 to keep their Tokyo 2020 Olympics dream alive.
X Raying the performance of both teams, Chikelue said both the Eagles and the U23 side showed commitment.
“You can see that it was not easy upturning the 2-0 first leg lead the Libyans got at home. Imama’s boys played with commitment and that was why they scored four goals to move ahead in the race to Tokyo. The good thing is that we also have a bunch of young talents ready to explode at both the U23 and senior national team levels. The game against Egypt was nice. The 1-0 victory is a big morale booster ahead of AFCON this summer,” Chikelue said.
It would be noted that Eagles new kid on the block, Paul Onuachu justified his call up to the team with his brilliant performance against Egypt.
Onuachu who made his debut in the game against Seychelles was a delight to watch against the Pharaohs. His first minute strike was all the Eagles needed to secure victory in the thrilling encounter watched by a near full house.
The game against Egypt was one in which Gernot Rohr tried out the goalkeeping duo of Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa. First choice keeper, Uzoho was rested after being on duty for the U23 team.
Ezenwa did a good job as his 87th minute save stopped Egypt from leveling up.
Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa who watched the game against Egypt has since rewarded the team with $60,000.
