Army begins three operations nationwide

The Nigerian Army has commenced three exercises nationwide code-named “Golden Dawn”, “Enduring Peace” and “Still Water”, aimed at fighting all kinds of criminality in the country.

In a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, would flag off all the exercises in Enugu State.

Nwachukwu explained that the operations were designed to effectively check all forms of criminality and allow for free movement of persons during the Yuletide.

Onyema urged residents not to panic on the sighting movement of troops and equipment.

Meanwhile, a tricycle (Keke) was set ablaze on Monday morning at Amachi Road Junction, off Agbani Road within the Enugu metropolis.

Daily Trust reports that major streets and major roads in Enugu were again deserted on Monday in compliance to the sit-at-home order.

Our Correspondent observed that the controversial sit-at-home order has continued to have adverse effects on the entire South East, notwithstanding the repeated declarations by the IPOB leadership that the Monday exercise has since been suspended indefinitely.

But the fear of violent attacks by miscreants has forced people indoors while some hoodlums have continued to implement the same suspended order, using violent attacks on those disobeying the infamous and contentious order.
