Arewa community to Ohanaeze: Buhari can’t release Nnamdi Kanu before May 29

The Arewa community in Southern Nigeria has faulted the call for the unconditional release of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Leader of the community, Musa Saidu, said this in response to the call by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, for unconditional released of the detained IPOB leader.
Chief Iwuanyanwu had urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release Kanu before his handover power to President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29.

Saidu believed that Chief Iwuanyawu’s call was wrong.
He wondered if the killings in the South East would stop if Kanu was released.
In a statement he signed, Saidu said: “Where were they when Kanu was leading IPOB militants to kill innocent people in the South East.
“Not only in the South East, so many members of the Arewa community were attacked in Port Harcourt and nobody said anything. We have the figures; we have even the photos of those killed in cold blood.
“Now they’re clamouring for his release, what guarantee are they giving that the killings will not continue if he is released.”

Recall that Mazi Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) since he was extra-ordinarily renditioned from Kenya.
The IPOB leader was brought back to continue his trial before the Nigerian court, over his agitation for a State of Biafra.
Despite being discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal, the Federal Government has refused to release Kanu.
