There was commotion during the APC Presidential rally held at Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday, over alleged refusal of an APC local government coordinator to release money promised some party supporters believed to be a part of the rented crowd to grace the Presidential Rally in Onitsha.

The crisis, which forced many of the supporters scampering for safety immediately after President Muhammadu Buhari had left the podium after his brief speech was said to have started when the local council coordinator for Buhari Campaign Organisation, in Onitsha, was said to have told the supporters that the money he had promised them was yet to be released by relevant authorities.

The reason for his inability to release the agreed money was said not to have gone down well with some of the supporters which caused them to bounce on the coordinator and gave him the beating of his life.

It was, however, gathered that some of the supporters who were sympathetic to the coordinator soon mobilised themselves against other supporters which resulted in a free for all.

However, the party coordinator was later rescued by sympathetic supporters who whisked him away from the crowd to an unknown destination.

Earlier, President Buhari who attended the rally with APC chieftains which included the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, among others, had promised to attract modern railway line from Port Harcourt to Enugu axis in his ongoing plan to give the people of the South East a sense of belonging.

The President, who decried the inability of the former administration of PDP under former President Goodluck Jonathan to complete Zik’s Mausoleum, also boasted that the Nigeria military had re-taken all the local governments in Borno State which had earlier fallen to Boko Haram insurgents.
