APC leadership has failed in Plateau – Lawmaker-elect

Mr. Alphonsus Koomsul, the House of Representatives member-elect for Shendam Mikang, Qua’anpan Federal Constituency has accused the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State of failure to provide good direction to move the party to the next level.

Koomsul said this while speaking to journalists, immediately after a court judgement which went in his favour on Friday in Jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Koomsul was dragged before a federal high court in Jos by his fellow party man, Mr. Joe Bukar, challenging his eligibility to contest the position.

Bukar who was defeated at the primaries, told the court that the primary school certificate presented by Koomsul was forged, hence prayed that primary election that produced him be nullified.

The elected lawmaker who defeated a sitting member, Johnbull Shekarau of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said if the APC leadership had intervened on the matter earlier, it would not have resulted into litigation in the first place.

“This issue would have been settled out of court, if the leadership of our party intervened, but it didn’t.

“The leadership failed in that aspect. If my fellow party can take me to court over a minor issue, then it means there is a failure of leadership and this is not healthy for the party, ” he said.

The member-elect commended the court for ensuring that the truth prevails, and called on Bukar to join hands with him in working for the good of the people of the constituency.

” I thank God that the court has settled this case. What has happened today is a demonstration of fairness and justice.

“The court has demonstrated that it is the last hope of the common man and my prayer is that other aggrieved candidates seeking justice get it just like me,” he prayed.

The Jos division of the Federal High Court, presided by Justice Musa Kurya, on Thursday, dismissed the case for lack of merit.

Koomsul had defeated Mr. Joe Bukar, during the All Progressives Congress (APC), primary election for the federal constituency. (NAN)
