AOCOED gets full accreditation for all courses from NCCE — Provost

The Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijinakin, Lagos says all its 31 courses have been fully accreditation during the 2018 exercise by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

Mrs Omolola Ladele, Provost of the College made the disclosure during the Matriculation of the full-time NCE Students for the 2018/2019 academic session on Wednesday in Lagos.

Ladele said that following the feat, the college would be able to further breed critical innovations in its teacher education programmes.

She said such programmes would help to stem the issue of unemployment, half baked graduates, poverty, corruption and other social menace.

“We thank the Lagos State Government for providing the fund for the accreditation and for its support over the years.

“We thank the Chairman and members of the College’s Governing Council, Staff, Students and the entire community for their cooperation and understanding. Together, we shall take AOCOED to the next level,’’ she said.

Ladele reiterated the commitment of the college to quality teacher education, as producing skilled teachers was not only crucial to the country’s economic growth strategy, but determines the country’s capacity to attain the Sustainable Development Goals.

She hailed the role of the college in the development of the current national minimum standard for the pre -NCE curriculum in the country, which remained a feat in the teaching industry.

“AOCOED remained a prominent source of idea generation to other colleges of education in the country not because we take the lead in the process of NCEE curriculum development but because we are active in the process of curriculum implementation,’’ she said.

Ladele, however, congratulated the matriculating students for the privilege to be admitted into the institution and charged them to work hard, pray and behave well, in order to succeed.

“You are indispensable because education unlocks the door to modernisation and it is the teacher who holds the key to do that.

“This is because even with the huge budgetary allocation to the education sector, the best educational planning, policies and designs, the ultimate realisation of any set of aims for education still depends on the teacher,’’ she said.

The Provost also commended the students who were above 18 years of age and endeavoured to register and vote during the just-concluded 2019 general elections.

She said the right to vote was indispensable and the fulcrum upon which democracy rests, as the success of the election had attested to the readiness of Nigerians to grow and protect democracy.

“God will guide those elected into various positions to be responsible and responsive to the needs of the people,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the college matriculated 1, 300 students.

A total of 444 students were admitted into the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) and 83 students into the School of Early Childhood and Primary Education (SECPED).

Some 190 students were admitted to the School of Languages (SLAN), 271 into the School of Sciences (SOS) and 312 into the School of Vocational and Technical Education (SVTE). (NAN)
