Anambra Govt to classify hotels to boost tourism

Mrs Sally Mbanefo, Anambra State Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artwork, Culture and Tourism, says the state government will soon commence inspection and classification of hotels across the state to boost tourism.

Mbanefo made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Awka.

The commissioner urged hotel operators, who were yet to register with the government to do so for a huge patronage and safety of their clients.

“The documentation will assist the hotels in case of any unforeseen circumstances and to give a quick intervention where the need arises,” she said.

She said that the ministry had notified all hotel operators in the state of the government intention and urged other stakeholders to cooperate.

The commissioner said the hotel would be put in the state’s websites for easy identification to guard intending tourists or investors to the state.

She said that the concept was not to witch-hunt the operators but to assist in boosting the standard of the hotels and to attract the right type of guest.

Mbanefo added that the state government would partner the hotel proprietors to increase their revenue and that of the state government.

The commissioner reiterated the state government’s readiness to improve infrastructure, such as improved electricity supply, to enhance businesses at lower cost.
