Anambra APC shreds member for returning to PDP

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Anambra State chapter has shredded one of its members and lawmaker, Hon. Onyebuchi Offor, for leaving the party to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Offor, who represents  Ekwusigo State  Constituency,  in the state  House of Assembly, had dumped the PDP and joined the APC a few weeks to the November 6 gubernatorial election in the state.

However, immediately after the APC and its candidate, Andy Uba, the election, the lawmaker also dumped APC and announced his return to his former party, the PDP.

Rubbishing Offor’s decision in a press statement,  APC publicity secretary in Anambra State, Mr Okelo Madukife, said Offor joined the party in anticipation of financial gain.

He also alleged that Offor pocketed millions of naira he was supposed to deploy for Uba’s campaign, lending credence to the suspicion that people merely joined the Uba train do as to milk him of huge cash.
Madukife rejected Offor’s reason for returning to the PDP and accused the lawmaker of shortchanging party members.
He said in a statement: “The reasons proffered by Orifite-born Hon. Onyebuchi Offor, and member representing Ekwusigo State Constituency of Anambra State for ‘returning to PDP’ is untenable,” he said.

“The unassailable truth is that whatever the outcome of 2021 Governorship Election, APC is the most organized, stable, and reputable party in Anambra State and is today the only opposition party in the state, which Anambra-wide followership is entrenched.

“Our party will do better when distractions like Offor, wearing the tag of ‘honourable’, like a meal ticket, even in the most dishonourable conduct learn to stay one course.

“Hon. Offor is not announcing his entry into APC for the first time. In 2017, the last governorship election year before this year, Hon. Offor announced his entry in support of Ifeanyi Ubah upon the entry of the latter into APC to vie for the governorship ticket.

“He equally left when Ubah failed to get that in the typical manner of a political prostitute.”

The statement further read: “The regret is that apart from prostituting, Hon. Offor ought to have shared the goal of this year’s prostitution parade which was to storm our unsuspecting campaign (not even party), displace our committed members who could have been more useful in the election and make away with funds running into hundreds of millions of Naira.

“We recommend to the people of Ekwusigo to do something to stop Hon. Offor from leaning on anybody to once again rig his way to Anambra State House of Assembly, where consistently, he has traded to prevent Ekwusigo LG from electing their government, while pretending to be for the opposition.”

Prof Charles Soludo, the flag bearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, beat the APC candidate, Andy Uba, to a distant third position. Uba and his APC did not even win one local government in the poll, a dismal outing that made Offor to realise his miscalculation and return to PDP, which placed second in the election with its standard-bearer, Valentine Ozigbo.
