The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has stepped in to reconcile the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the state’s House of Assembly, following a crisis that broke out in the state on Monday.
In a statement on Tuesday, on its X (formerly Twitter) page, the party pleaded with all stakeholders to hold fire while it seeks to remedy the situation.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) calls on all actors in the disagreement in Rivers State to sheathe their swords and allow for peaceful and amicable resolution of all the issues,” the statement read.
“The NWC urges all PDP members and supporters to be calm and assures that it has commenced processes, using the Party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms to ensure that all matters and areas of disagreement are addressed.

“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders and members of our great Party in Rivers State to close ranks, unite and focus on the onerous task of governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.”
Crisis on Monday engulfed the Rivers State House of Assembly when some lawmakers purported to be supporters of the immediate past governor of the state and now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, began an impeachment process against Governor Sim Fubara after removing the House Leader, Ehie Edison, a staunch ally of the governor.
However, the governor’s supporters regrouped and impeached the House speaker and elected Edison as his replacement after which the House was adjourned sine die.
Fubara had accused security operatives of compromise in the crisis, alleging that they shot directly at him.
