Pursuant to the notification of the commencement of signing of the Niger Delta Peoples Charter from 1st November by the Niger Delta Congress (NDC), on Thursday, Emeritus Professor of History, Ebiegberi Joe Alagoa, became the first signatory to the Charter at his country home, in Nembe, Bayelsa State.

The Niger Delta Charter, amongst other things, states the conditions to be met by the Federal Federation for the continued participation of the nationalities of the region in the Nigerian project.
