Ebonyi CAN crisis persists as govt’s largesse tears members apart

The leadership crisis rocking the Ebonyi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has taken another dimension.

Recall that the Christian body in the state has been engulfed in a leadership crisis which has led to the factionalisation of the group.

Two persons, Rev. Scamb Nwokolo and Pastor Alloy Ogah, are laying claim to the chairmanship of the group.

The crisis escalated when the state government gave the association a Christmas package in December 2023. The largesse was allegedly paid into Nwokolo’s account which didn’t go down well with the faction led by Ogah.

Ogah and his group accused Nwokolo of diverting money and other items donated to the association to their personal use.

The Ogah faction accused Nwokolo of embezzling the sum of N100 million and also diverting 1,000 bags of rice and two vehicles he received on behalf of the Christian body during the 2023 Yuletide season.

The factional body led by Ogah has insisted that Nwokolo’s faction will not rest until they give account of their stewardship.

When contacted, Nwokolo denied the allegations, describing them as blackmail against his personality.
