Alleged abduction: Court refuses to admit middle-aged man to bail

A Yola Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday refused to admit to bail a middle-aged man, Adamu Abdulrahman, accused of abducting and sodomising two boys.

The Magistrate, Jummai Ibrahim, who rejected the bail by the defendant, ordered that Abdulrahman be remanded in prison.

Ibrahim, adjourned the case until May 22 for further mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Abdullahi Abubakar, told the court that the defendant was arrested at Magaji Ward, Yola on April 4, for intent to commit culpable homicide and wrongful confinement.

Abubakar alleged that the defendant abducted two boys and took them to an unknown place.

He also alleged that the defendant, drugged them and sodomised them.

The defence counsel, Mr Friday Charles, made oral application for bail claiming that he was seriously beaten and sustained injuries during his arrest.

“The defendant is in need of  medical treatment,” he said.

Charles prayed the court to use its discretion and give his client bail.

Charles said that granting the defendant bail would not jeopardise police investigation. (NAN)
