All Africa Senior Badminton Championships: Wike, Dalung to grace final

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, will lead other dignitaries to the Alfred Ditte-Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt where the final of the All Africa Senior Badminton Championships takes place on Sunday.
According to the chairman of ceremony and entertainment sub-committee for the event, Emmanuel Zira, the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, will also grace the final as well as the Deputy Governor of Rivers State.
He said several commissioners in the state including that of sports Boma Iyaye would also be on ground.
“We are expecting a colourful event on Sunday; these dignitaries have confirmed their presence, the minister of sports is in town already and everyone is looking forward to a successful final.
“Because we have a busy day, there wouldn’t be an elaborate activities but there would still be some very brief performances from some artistes,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday, there would be semifinal matches in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles , women’s double as well as mixed doubles.
Team Nigeria, on Thursday, claimed the gold medal in the mixed team event after beating rivals Mauritius 3-2 in the final.
Quarterfinals matches were still ongoing as at the time press time.
