Again, suspected Fulani herdsmen kill one, injure another in Delta

Gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have allegedly killed a farmer, Chief Albert Chikwe, the Ade of Abugba, at his farm in Udo village, while another young man was said to have escaped with a bullet wound in Ubulu-uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Nigerian Xpress gathered that the victim, Chikwe, in his 60s, went with labourers to work in his farm when the suspected herdsmen attacked him.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleke Adeyinka, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent, on Monday, disclosed that Albert was found dead in the bush.

“Let’s not accuse somebody, for now, the investigation is ongoing.”

One of the labourers who spoke with our correspondent said he witnessed the incident.

He added that they were helpless and had to run home to inform the family.

Also, Chief Jamico Adoh, Ubulu-Uku vigilance group leader, said the remains of Chief Chikwe was discovered on Tuesday morning.

“Even same day, the herdsmen also shot and maimed an Ubulu-Uku youth along Ubulu-Uku/Issele-Uku Road, where the herders have made a new abode and abattoirs.

“The young man as we speak now is receiving treatment somewhere in an undisclosed hospital.

“It is unclear if it is a failed kidnap or assassination attempt but the man escaped with his car and wound,” he said.

Recall that in January 2016, some suspected Fulani herdsmen had kidnapped and killed the traditional ruler of Ubulu-Uku kingdom, HRM Obi Akaeze Edward Ofulue III along Ubulu-Uku/Issele-Uku Road.
