Newly-appointed Inspector General of Police,  Ag. IGP Mohammed Adamu, may not be sending the DIGs and Senior AIGs on compulsory retirement after all.

Feelers reaching The Nigerian XPress has it that the decision of the new IGP might not be far from the fact that the elections are around the corner and there was little or no time to make new appointments and then plan for the elections.

Recall that his predecessors, IGP Ibrahim Idris, had retired highly experienced and professional DIGs and AIGs when he was appointed to head the Force.

Although this decision is a deviation from the norm in the Force, IGP Adamu has, however, advised the DIGs and AIGs to be calm saying there was no cause for alarm.

Adamu also made it clear that his mission was to reposition the Force and redeem its battered image.

A source had said,  “The new IG is not keen to retire his DIGs and senior AIGs. Instead, he has assured to tap from their wealth of experiences and work together.

“Another reason is that some of the DIGs and AIGs as well as CP Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal, are his course mates. Whereas, about four of the DIGs are his course mates, the other two or so, have barely three months to leave the Force.”
