Abaribe slams Anyim, Ezeife, other Igbo leaders over ‘beggarly’ stance on 2023 Presidency

The senator representing Abia South Senatorial District  in the National Assembly, who is also Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, has rejected the comment credited to a former Secretary to the Federal Government, Anyim Pius Anyim and a former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, who were reported to have said that the South East is ‘prepared to kneel or bow before every ethnic group to clinch the 2023 presidency’.

Sen. Abaribe said that the candidates interested in 2023 Presidency should not use their selfish presidential ambition to discredit the Igbo.

According to a statement, Sen. Abaribe said that, “This is a very big insult to the entire Igbo Nation worldwide. Anyone clamouring to become the next President of Nigeria should not use Ndi Igbo to achieve his Political ambitions. He should come out open and stop hiding under the name Igbo to bring insult to us.

“Igbos are the most respected tribe in the whole of Africa, because we create something out of nothing and still doing better than those holding the political power for years. So why should we kneel down to beg them?

“Nobody gives power except the Almighty God, Him alone can decide the fate of Igbo people in Nigeria and not a mere mortal. Anyone who chooses to kneel before other tribes should do so only with his family, if only his family will agree with him because no sensible Igbo man will tolerate such rubbish.

“We are blessed by God in divert ways, remove the Igbos from Nigeria and watch the economy of Nigeria crumble within a short period of time. So when I heard that some people are busy asking us to go down on our knees and beg for Presidential position in this country, it makes no meaning to me at all.

“I call on those championing such selfish ambitions to retrace their steps and attach some respect to that word “Igbo”. Our forefathers did not beg to achieve what they achieved in Nigeria, is it now our generation that will go down on our knees begging to produce the President of Nigeria. I’m sorry, we will never do that. On this issue, God has the final say not man,” Sen. Abaribe said.
