25 pupils rescued from collapsed school building in Lagos

Twenty five primary school pupils have been rescued from a three-storey building, which collapsed in Lagos on Wednesday, March 13.

Many pupils are feared still trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building, as evacuation continues.

The building located in the Itafaji area of Lagos Island was reported to be a residential building with several apartments, but also housing a private school. Up to a hundred school children were believed to be in the building when it collapsed.

The building caved in about 10.00 in the morning when the school was in session.

No fewer than 25 pupils were, however, said to have been evacuated from the rubble as at press time.

The building collapse was confirmed by Kehinde Adebayo, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

He said emergency officials were already on ground.

The cause of the building collapse is yet to be ascertained.
