2023: We’re yet to endorse any Presidential candidate, says Ohanaeze

The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says it was yet to endorse any Presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

The clarification came in the wake of wide-held views that the body had endorse the candidacy of candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, the group also stated that the Igbo socio-cultural group would make public its opinion over where Igbo votes would be cast.

This was said in a statement made available to the pressmen on Sunday in Kaduna and signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of the group.

The organisation also stated that while it did not constitute an endorsement, it recognised that some candidates for the 2023 Presidential election possess qualities that were admirable and deserving of imitation.

Isiguzoro, in the statement, said that “What was misinterpreted as an endorsement was a clarion calls for a change in the altitudes of APC southeast Governors and Southeast senators, whose activities de-marketed the southeast in the APC primaries.”

He also revealed that “Ndigbo was ashamed to admit that an APC southeast Governor, who led APC to their defeats in Edo and Anambra governorship elections spearheaded the aspiration of a Northeast aspirant against the southeast aspirants in APC primary.”

The statement also chastised a former governor and an APC senator who is scheming for the position of Senate President against the South East’s quest for 2023 presidency.

The group’s statement also said that, “Ndigbo will officially declare openly the candidate who is entitled to Igbo votes in 2023.

“We affirm that two of our own, one is a Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, and the other is PDP Vice presidential candidate ” nobody will throw out the people’s movement for any reason.

“It’s the Imeobi’s decision of Ohanaeze Ndigbo then ratified by the general assembly of Ohanaeze will stand as the official position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the 2023 election but for now there is no endorsement of any Presidential candidate for now,” the statement said.
