2023: Gov. Umahi vows to resist imposition of successor

…Says he’d fight those who oppose his government

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has declared that the state government would resist any attempt by any person or group to impose the next Chief Executive of the state  come 2023.

Governor Umahi made the declaration, in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Saturday, during the State Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said that both the PDP and the state government has been guided by transparency that had resulted to several achievements recorded by the administration.

“Those who think they can bring  leadership from outside should know that it would not work,,” he warned.

Governor Umahi urged politicians to exercise caution ahead of the 2023 general election stating that, “we were elected to work and provide Democratic dividends to the people.

“I pity people who are moving from one political platform to another in order to wrestle power, even if you jump to another  political party, I will still go there  and spoil things for you.

“I will not worry about succession. God will bring a successor. There will be no tension in Ebonyi State.”

The Congress resulted to the re-election of the immediate past chairman of the PDP, in Ebonyi State, Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi,  alongside other 38 members of the State Executives.

The Congress was conducted in strict compliance with the COVID-19 protocol and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In attendance were the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly,  Hon. Francis Nwifuru, National vice Chairman of the party in South East, Chief Austin Umahi, National Assembly members, State Assembly members, among others.

Governor Umahi noted that the PDP remains the strongest in Ebonyi state insisting that, “the National Headquarters of the party cannot joke with the State in particular and the South East geo-political zone in general.

“I want to thank the electoral panel members for the peaceful exercise and beautiful job done in the State, make sure INEC signs your form because it’s the beginning of wisdom.

“I started life as a politician, so I have to be here because it’s my Constituency.

 “I want to thank the South East  Governors for ceding the office the National Vice Chairman and two other positions to Ebonyi State.

“It was without rancour. Every election in Ebonyi State is going to be people-oriented. I thank the National Assembly members of the State extraction for coming.”

A total of 1,748 delegates participated in the election.

In an acceptance on behalf  of the new State Working Committee, the chairman Barr. Nwebonyi, thanked Governor David Umahi and other delegates for electing them.

He assured the party members that they would  continue to entrench internal democracy and promote the good works of the Peoples Democratic Party administration in the state in line with the party constitution.

The Congress was conducted by a team of PDP officials from the party Headquarters Abuja led by Mrs. Chinwe Mba and was supervised by Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
