2023: Fresh poll gives Peter Obi lead

A recently-conducted survey, facilitated by the Market Trends International (MTI), in respect of the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, has placed Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, ahead of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), among others.

In a statement issued, on Wednesday, by MTI’s Executive Director, Victor Ebhomenye, the nationwide opinion survey saw the former Anambra State governor garnering the highest favourable rating to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari with 44% of the respondents indicating they would vote for the Labour Party candidate in next month’s presidential election.

“Peter Obi has picked up pace in the race since he declared interest to run with the Labour Party as the party’s presidential candidate at its national convention and presidential primary in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, on Monday, 30th of May after other aspirants like former presidential adviser, Prof. Pat Utomi; Faduri Joseph and Olubusola Emmanuel-Tella, stepped down.

“With Mr Obi’s emergence, the party may receive boosts to achieve lasting alliance talks with the New Nigeria Peoples Party- NNPP (this alliance is said to have collapsed at the moment); Zenith Labour Party (ZLP); Allied Peoples Movement (APM); National Rescue Movement (NRM); Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC), among others before the February 2023 presidential race.

“The proposed alliance has halted the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its main opposition, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), from dominating the upcoming elections,” Ebhomenye said.

Earlier, in December 2022, a poll also tipped Obi to emerge victorious.
