2023 election: Buhari to meet Malami, Amaechi, others over political ambition

President Muhammadu Buhari will meet with members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) who have been ordered to retire because of their political ambitions.

Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, revealed this in a Channels Television interview, on Thursday.

At the Presidential Villa, in Abuja, Shehu said the President would meet with ministers who have resigned and others who have yet to depart their posts. 

In the coming days, the President will hold a goodbye gathering for ministries and political appointees, according to the presidential spokesperson.

Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta Minister Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ogbonnaya Onu; and Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva; Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education; Uche Ogah, Minister of Mines and Steel; and Pauline Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, are among the others.

This comes a day after Ngige stated that he is not in a rush to quit and that he will confer with the President and his constituency before submitting his resignation.

The minister explained that President Buhari had given some time for those that need clarifications on his pronouncement to meet him.

 “I have no reaction for now because the President said if anyone wants clarifications, the person should meet him.

“So, I have to consult him and consult my constituents, Anambra state because I am holding the office for the government and my constituents,” he had said.
