2023: Don’t allow them to deceive you – Shehu Sani warns Jonathan

The former Senator that represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan not to allow himself to be used and dumped.

Sen. Sani spoke against the backdrop of unfolding events and possible consequences regarding the 2023 presidential election with insinuations that Jonathan is under pressure to join the race.

There had been several reports that some stakeholders within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are bent on having Jonathan as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate so the north can return to power after four years.

For that to happen, the former President would have to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC.

Sen. Sani who took to his Twitter account on Monday warned Jonathan not to deceive himself or allow others to deceive him. He wrote: “GEJ should not deceive himself nor allow them to deceive him.”

However, amidst the developing political drama, it was recalled Jonathan on Friday addressed supporters who have been clamouring for him to join the 2023 presidential race. He told the demonstrators who stormed his private office in Abuja to demand he declares for the 2023 presidency that the political process is ongoing, urging them to just watch as things unfold. Specifically, he stated that he can’t tell them if he would be declaring or not for the 2023 presidential race yet.

He said this while addressing a group of supporters including women and youths who came with posters to his office in Abuja bearing inscriptions such as “Goodluck Jonathan, you must run”, “We need you to restore Nigeria.”

Jonathan said, “Yes you are calling me to come and declare for the next election, I cannot tell I’m declaring. The political process is ongoing just watch out. The key role you must play is that Nigeria must get somebody that will carry young people along.”
