20 students bag first class as Alex Ekwueme Varsity holds 4th convocation – VC

No fewer than 20 students of Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State, will graduate with first Class Degree during the forth coming 4th Convocation ceremony billed to hold on Tuesday 17th December 2019.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba , made the disclosure at the institution arena on Thursday while briefing newsmen at a pre-convocation media chat .

He said that a total of 512 students will graduate during the convocation stating that 205 bagged 2nd Class Upper Division, 253 Second Class lower, while 24 bagged 3rd class.

“20 will be graduating with first class , a young lady emerging as best graduand of the year 2019 from faculty of Science ( Bio-Chemistry).

” Of this , a total of 47 are from  Faculty of Basic Medical Science, 95 from the faculty of Humanities , 220 from Faculty of Management and Social Science, 150 from Faculty of Science, making a total of 512.”

Professor Nwajiuba said that the university will be awarding post graduate degrees on medicine and post graduate Diploma for the first time.

Nwajiuba said that two persons will be conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degrees with Late Philip Effiong to be awarded a posthumous degree together with the former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly Hon. Ochie.

“Philip Effiong is a man that has a place in Nigeria history; these two personalities have been selected for honorary doctorate degree award.”

The University don hinted that the Convocation lecture will take place on Monday 16th December 2019 by the Executive Secretary National University Commission Professor Abubakar Rasheed.

“The theme of the lecture is the Role of Universities in the Unity and National Integration “

Professor Nwajiuba said that the institution in 2018 presented 28 programmes for accreditation while 26 programmes obtained full accreditation.

Speaking against the backdrop of the prevailing bickering rocking between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), Professor Nwajiuba assured that the matter will be resolved.

On the persistent conflict emanating between the university community and the host community over the payment of land compensation, Professor Nwajiuba urged the state government to facilitate the process geared towards resolving the imbroglio.
