2 caught using drone to monitor Osoba’s home

Former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba has raised the alarm over threats to his safety and privacy after two persons, including a lady were caught on Tuesday afternoon, using a drone to monitor goings on in his compound in Abeokuta, the state capital.

“The political climate in Ogun State has taken a dangerous dimension with a major security breach and threat to the former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba,” a press release signed by the former governor’s aide, Adekunle Adeyemi on Tuesday stated.

According to Adeyemi, Chief Osoba’s security staffers were able to bring down a drone that the lady and young man were using to monitor activities in the home of Chief Osoba and they were arrested and handed over to law enforcement agents.

“Neither of the arrested youngsters was able to give coherent explanation to Chief Osoba’s security staff,” Adeyemi stated.

The former governor, it was further stated, had arrived from the United Kingdom early Tuesday morning “to prepare for a private meeting where the peaceful conduct of the presidential primary scheduled for Friday was to be discussed.”

Adeyemi pointed out that the incident was another in series of breach of Chief Osoba’s security.

He recalled that some unknown persons had invaded the former governor’s compound a few years back and took time to dig out armoured cable buried in the premises.

He also recalled that unidentified hoodlums had also vandalized two bungalows within the premises.

“Another breach was when insultive and abusive graffiti were written round the fence of Chief Osoba, not too long ago.”

In April 2016, Chief Osoba returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in whose formation he played a prominent role but left following a disagreement between him and his estranged political son and current Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and some leaders of the party brokered the truce, which facilitated the return of the former governor to the party from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which he and his supporters had defected to.

Ogun State has been witnessing dissension lately after Governor Amosun unveiled consensus APC candidates for the governorship and the National Assembly for the 2019 polls.

Contenders for the party’s slots who were sidelined have condemned the action of the governor and leaders who were part of the consensus arrangement.
